Cupcakes is Going Green
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009At Cupcakes, we wear organic cotton uniforms, recycle, and use CFL light bulbs in our stores, but we need YOU to help make some of the biggest differences in helping us to go green for our planet.
We’ve always wanted to reduce the number of plastic bags that are being used, not just at our store but across our city.
Did you know:
-Plastic bags are made from natural gas or oil and consume an energy equivalent of hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a day
-Canadians use 55 million plastic bags per week
-Vancouver City Council is working on a total ban of single use plastic bags (Vancouver Sun, Oct 16, 2008)
-They take about 400 years to decompose
-The litter caused by plastic bags are a serious danger to birds and marine life, and cost millions of dollars in clean up cost from tax payers dollars (San Francisco estimated that they spend $8.5 million dollars annually to deal with plastic bag litter).
So we decided that on Earth Day, April 22nd, Cupcakes won’t use any plastic bags. Instead, we have adorable reusable recyclable bags available for just $2.50, and they are limited edition designs. You can use them to carry all your things around and feel good about helping out the Earth!!
Please help us by starting even earlier than Earth day. If you know you’re coming by, bring your reusable containers to put your cupcakes in, or buy a reusable bag. Together we can help the Earth and make Vancouver a cleaner, greener city for us all!
Cupcakes Cares!!
Thank you!
